Ich sollte wirklich aufhören Bethesdas Foren zu lesen. Aber es ist wie eine Sucht.I agree with the OP. I hope that Bethesda does not work with Obsidian in the future. It may be that Obsidian is the grandfather of the TRUE Fallout, but if that is so then I don't want anymore Fallout - I want more of whatever Fallout 3 is.
Fallout New Vegas is bland. The story does not track well. You are shot in the head (OK.), but if I'm just a simple courier, a little guy, then why would I all of a sudden try and be the biggest bad ass in the world ? - Seems to me that this story is like a cut and paste job gone wrong. Nothing in the story feels connected to anything else and I don't feel connected to the character either (at level 14). Fallout New Vegas feels - pointless, or better yet, plot less.
The dialog choices in Fallout New Vegas make no sense whatsoever and I'll give you two examples.
At the general store in Goodsprings I can ask the owner to tell me more about "Mr. House." - to which I reply, who the hell is Mr. House and why would I even ask that question?
At the lucky 38 casino, I can ask Jane "What's with the snowglobe collection? - to which I reply, what the hell are you talking about... snowglobe collection? Where? Why do I care?
Because I had a great science skill I killed Mr. House before I even knew what the hell the point of being in the casino was. Imagine if you could have crept into the enclave at the start of the game - I can't go any further without a spoiler for fallout 3, but the point is that this game is poorly designed, poorly executed, and events are VERY loosely connected.
And, there are MANY more examples of dialogue that simply feel like a cut and paste job from a brainstorming session, poorly implemented ideas by developers that were too lazy to make an immersible world and instead took the G.E.C.K. and made a big mod out of a bunch of random thoughts. That is what Fallout New Vegas feels like, a big mod. It absolutely, 100%, lacks the quality, character, depth of plot, continuity of story, and immersion of any of Bethesda game I've ever played. I'm a little disappointed, yes, but more than anything I'm just bored with New Vegas.
I'm going to write a complete new thread on this seriously flawed game when time permits, but before then I'd like to say a few more things...
#1) - this game is WAY TOO MUCH RPG.
I'm bored to death with talking to the NPC's, especially since they have such lousy dialogue, and there is truly no opportunity to be tense or frightened of what is around the corner in New Vegas. The subways, buildings, vaults of Fallout 3 were TENSE and the action was GOOD. Fallout New Vegas has about as much action as a retirement home. When the powder ganger surprised me, you know, I was so happy because I thought this game was going to really be something to watch your back over, but that was the only tiny bit of adrenaline I've had and I'm on level 14. Why are all the buildings and "levels" so easy to waltz right in and out of?
No raiders trying to kill me, nothing to be worried about at all.
Why in the world would ceasar want to talk with me? - That is SO LAME!
If anything, I'd have to be captured as a slave and complete a whole subplot before Ceasar would talk with me, but no... spoiler.
As much as I like Bethesda, after this and alpha protocol (I don't care why it sucked, it just sucked, no excuses) I will never touch another game with Obsidian on, in, or anywhere near it.
I can think of a multitude of examples of why Fallout 3 was a better game, but I'll leave that for my own thread.
One last thing - credit where credit is due - the improved inventory system is a welcome change. This is something that should have been in Fallout 3 and everyone knows it. Obviously Bethesda didn't have time to expand the inventory and crafting system, but that is pretty much the ONLY good thing about New Vegas. Hardcore mode is a joke. Why is it hardcore?
Because I have to carry around a few water bottles and an iguana stick?
Seriously, there is no action in this game at all. So don't worry about hardcore mode. If there was any chance of getting shot then I guess it would be cool.
Please Bethesda, don't collaborate with Oblivion anymore. Nothing but a bunch of amateur modders.
Just look at the rocks in good springs, the very first place in the game... gaps in the game world the size of a gecko's head. Obsidian needs to go back to school. Actually, maybe if they hang around Bethesda long enough they'll learn something, but I kinda doubt it.
